Sexually Transmitted Diseases, also known as STDs, are infections that are passed from one person to another through sexual contact. You can get an STD from vaginal, anal, or oral sex. Some STDs can spread through unsterilized drug needles, from mother to child during childbirth or breast-feeding, and blood transfusions. STD’s are serious diseases that need to be treated, because some of them can cause death, or leave a severe damage in the body.
The causes of STDs are bacteria, parasites, yeast, and viruses, and there are over 35 types of STDs. Syphilis, is a bacterial infection that can usually be spread by sexual contact, being one of the most common sexually transmitted disease.
Syphilis is caused by Treponema pallidum, a bacteria that attacks the mucous membrane (which is a layer of tissues that lines all body openings) in a site of infection. This disease can be spread by any sexual contact, but it can also be spread from an infected mother to the fetus during pregnancy or to the baby at the time of birth.
A person with primary syphilis generally has a sore or sores at original site infection. These sores can usually (but not always) be firm, round, and painless. In the secondary stage of syphilis, you get flu-like symptoms and a red rash that can occur on any part of the body, but does not itch. At last, tertiary syphilis is associated with severe medical problems, involving the nervous system.
Syphilis can be detected if you get tested whether or not you have any symptoms. Usually, a nurse or doctor will take a blood sample to test you. Syphilis can be treated successfully in the early stages. Early treatment with penicillin is very important because long-term exposure to the disease can lead to life-threatening consequences.
STDs are no joke. If you get syphilis, don’t panic, but think what you could have done in the past to prevent this situation. It is important to always use protection, and if you are planning on having sexual intercourse, think of all the possibilities of getting STDs or any other dangerous disease. As a teenager, I don’t want that in my life. I believe that you should always be responsible and take care of your actions and think about the situation that might happen in the future.
In conclusion, I think that STDs are a very important topic because they are everyday real-life problems that can have a negative impact on the person’s quality of life. This type of infections can happen to teenagers and adults, that’s why everyone should be aware of them. This situation is a very delicate topic that needs to be handled properly and we should always look at it as a serious problem.
