Human Immunodeficiency Virus

HIV is an STD caused by having unprotected sex and sharing needles, this disease attacks the body’s immune system making it easier for you to have a normal disease that can be deadly for this people. According to the UNAIDS there were about 36.9 million people with HIV/AIDS worldwide in 2017 this is 0.8% of the world population in 2017. Some symptoms for HIV are fever, chills, rash, night sweats, muscle aches, sore throat and fatigue. The way HIV is detected is by blood test then doctors check if your blood has antibodies and if you are missing some that can mean that you have HIV.

The people that have HIV need to do the ART treatment (Antiretroviral therapy) this therapy does not cure this disease, but it can make people with HIV live longer. ART treatment is a series of a combination of HIV medicines that needs to be taken daily. The most recommended thing for people with HIV is to do this treatment as soon as possible. What does HIV do, what it does it that it attacks and destroys the CD4 Cells   of the immune system. These cells are the one that fight of the infections and diseases, this loss of the cells make it harder for the body to fight off infections and some HIV-related cancers. What the medicine does is that it makes the HIV virus to stop multiplying or making more of itself, which reduces the amount of HIV in the body, but there will always be HIV in the body. But even though there is still HIV is in the body, thanks to the medicine the body immune system can be stronger to fight off infections and HIV-related cancers. By reducing the amount of HIV in the body the medicine can also reduce the risk of HIV transmission.

Fist of all when you first receive HIV you start having some of the symptoms you first have like a flu-like symptoms which are fever, skin rash, sore throat, swollen glands, joint or muscle pain after 1 to 2 weeks this symptoms will disappear and the seroconversion period is over  this is when the person is producing antibodies to HIV and the infected do not experience any of the HIV symptoms for several years.

After the first stage ends, you start with the second stage which is the stage when you start taking your medicine this stage can last up to 10 years for someone that has no treatment. And for people with treatment can last a lot longer. If the person that has HIV and don’t do the treatment right, HIV will turn into AIDS and that it is the stage 3 but most of the times it won’t happen if you follow the treatment. In conclusion having an STD like HIV/AIDS can be extremely bad for your health and can cause even death. This disease makes your immune system start to fail making your body more vulnerable to any disease that can turn out to be deadly. By doing the right treatment you can avoid spreading the disease and making it a larger problem. If you don’t want to have the disease at all you need to not have unprotected sex, and don’t share any needles.
