Herpes is a sexually transmitted virus and infection that causes sores in the mouth or genitals. It is caused by herpes simplex virus, or HSV . There are two types or herpes, HSV-1 which can also cause HSV-2, and it may be genital or oral. This disease may be transmitted by already infected people or also by skin contact such as oral, annal, and vaginal sex, as well as kissing. Only 1 of 6 adult Americans have herpes, which means it is not too constant. These are some of the parts of the body that this virus affects: anal region, mucosal surfaces, external genitalia, and other skin parts.
When it comes to herpes, the most common symptom is to have sores, but there are people that have the virus and don’t experience any symptoms. People might not even notice they have herpes for the fact, it can be so mild. But that doesnt means you can’t infect other people. In fact, herpes doesn’t go away, it stays for the rest of your life. The infections that the virus provokes are for the rest of your life. When you have genital herpes, you may have blisters that pop, which becomes sores in any of your genitals such as :; vaginavigaina, vulva, cervix, penis, butt, anus, and inside your thighs. Some other symptoms are:;
- Burnings when urinating
- have trouble urinating
- sores and swells may block the urethra
- Pain in genitals
And if it is genital HSV-2 you may also have:
- Fever
- chills
- headache
- feeling tired
When thesethis symptoms show up at first, it is called an outbreak ,and it can be after two 2 to 20 days after getting the infection., buttimes iIt can happen in years, andadn lastslastas between two2 to four4 weeks. Oral herpes is less painful, and doesn’t makes you feel very sick. In oral herpes, blisters or sores show in your lips or mouth normally in the outside. It is not normal to have thesethis blisters in the inside, but usually it does happens the first times. These are called cold sores, or fever blisters. They last as few weeks and areis harmless to adults and kids, but may be harmful and dangerous for newborns babies.
These are some test that are done to detect herpes:
PCR test: This is very accurate, and it can even tell if you are positive when you don’t have symptoms. It requires genital sore or urinary tract. It looks for the virus species DNA. This test is commonly used.
Cell culture: The health care provider takes sore cells and looks for the virus or HSV virus using a microscope.
This test may give wrong results such as negative-false, if the sores started healing or if you are recently infected by the virus. It can also give positive-.false results by the same reason. If your outcome is positive you’ll need more testing, but the probability of getting the virus is low.
There is no cure, but there is medicine that can control and reduce outbreaks in the future and make them less painful. If you have an outbreak, your doctor will asing you which medicines to take to heal faster. But some other methods you can use are:
- taking a warm bath
- keeping your genital area dry
- wearing soft, loose clothes
- putting an ice pack on the sores
- taking a pain reliever like aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), or acetaminophen (Tylenol).
If you have constant outbreaks, your doctor may assign you to take medicine each day. This is called the suppressive therapy. If you take medicine or not, you should still be having good habits such as more sleep, eating healthy, and avoiding stress. This might all help you get less outbreaks. If you have oral herpes try to avoid sunburns. Herpes is not dangerous or deadly so if you don’t have many outbreaks it is your choice to take treatments. But remember that sorers increase the probability of having HIV, so you should keep that in mind.
As short term consequences in the first outbreak there may not be symptoms for HSV-2. After the main outbreak there may be factors that may provoke short term effects such as ; becoming too tired emotional stress, exposure to light, dental work, and cold or flu. As long term consequences, it usually causes psychological distress, which you can receive help from a therapist or doctor. For people that have suppressed immune systems, herpes may be severe. It is never cured and there may be any outbreaks per year.
Analyzing all this, you should be conscious of your choices, because a wrong choice may affect your whole life. Be more reflective about your actions and try not to fall in decisions that you don’t really want to do. Social pressure these days is strong, which can lead to thing you don’t want to do, such as sexuall relationships. This is only one of the many options that can happen to you if you don’t make a right choice.
