Anxiety is a reaction to stress, and sometimes it helps teenagers like yourself to deal with tense situations. Anxiety disorders in teens can create a sense of doom and nervousness that suddenly appears.
4 important things you need to do to deal with anxiety:
Move around: Exercise is important in your physical life, and it helps you to calm your feelings of anxiety and improve your sense of well-being. Exercise of about 3-5 days for 30 min. will definitely help.
Sleep: Sleep is really important, especially when you are a teenager. Quality and quantity are really important for good sleep. Doctors recommend at least 8 hours of sleep. This will help you relax and be less worried and calm when you wake up.
Have a worry time: This may sound really weird and unusual. But when you have free time, take 30 minutes to identify what is bothering you and what can you do to stop it. You can call this your “worry session” and you can have it every day at the same time. Really focus on what is bothering you to solve it.
Breathe Deep: When you breathe, your body sends out a message to your brain that you are OK. It helps your mind and body relax. To get more relaxed, lie down in a flat surface and put one hand in your belly and the other one in your chest, when you breath do it really slow and make sure you can feel your belly rise. Hold your breath for a second and let it out slowly.
Anxiety can lead to serious abuse and use of drugs. People with anxiety disorders cannot stop the effects of anxiety disrupting their everyday life. People affected by anxiety take drugs or alcohol to self-medicate themselves and manage their symptoms. If a teen knows something is wrong with them and has the feeling that it is anxiety, they should go to an adult, like a teacher, a family member they trust,, the school psychologist, and specially and most recommended, their parents, and AT LEAST go to a friend. When done going with someone trustworthy, they should ask for help and explain what they need help in, since it is a serious problem that can lead to a lot of problems.
